There are two types of antioxidants: those made by the body (endogenous) and those obtained from the diet (exogenous).  Endogenous antioxidants are usually enzymes, co-enzymes, and sulfur-containing compounds such as glutathione and superoxide dismutase (SOD).  The endogenous antioxidants are not sufficient to meet our needs; therefore, it is very important to obtain additional antioxidants from the diet or supplementation.
